Domestic violence includes physical, verbal, sexual, emotional, social and economic abuse and its impacts are vast and long-lasting, particularly on children. 1 in 2 assaults reported in Australia are related to family or domestic violence. So far this year, a woman has been murdered by her current or former partner every five days.

Impact on children
Babies and young children are particularly impacted by domestic violence, with symptoms such as sleep and appetite disturbances, increased irritability, defiance, aggression, anxiety, depression, regression in developmental skills such as toileting, memory and learning difficulties, withdrawal from friends and activities, and increased physical complaints.
Children exposed to domestic violence are also at greater risk of being bullied at school, be violent in their relationships and further abuse outside the home.
