After-session self-care guide
Your sessions can lead to very deep, powerful change in your body, which can continue for several days after sessions.
Following a session, it's normal to feel a little more emotional and tired! No 1... Be kind to yourself!
Nurturing support
Ways you can support your body to clear out toxins and support regeneration during this important healing phase include:
Drink filtered tap water to flush out any residual emotional toxins from your body
Eat lightly or grounding foods such as root vegetables, leafy greens and meats
Draw, colour-in, trace the labyrinth below with your finger, or do some craft
Consume bone broths or drink herbal teas
Grounding (aka being barefoot on the grass), imagine your legs as being roots of a tree and 'feel' them going down, down into the ground. Hug a tree or sit at the base of a tree for at least 15 mins
Focus on your breathing for at least 10 breaths, imagining breathing in calm and breathing out the discomfort
Go for a Gentle Walk or spend some time in nature - park, beach, river, bush, forest, your backyard, looking for the flowers, birds, butterflies; go for a swim.
Have a shower or have a relaxing bath with Epsom salts (Chemist/Health Food store)
Have a rest or nap
Mindfulness, meditating or praying
Enjoy some quiet time on your own
Reflect by journaling/writing/drawing your experience, thoughts and emotions that come up for you.
Calming or grounding essential oils such as Vetiver, Lavender, Chamomile, Myrrh
Tap on your collarbone point with your fingertips for a few minutes and say the following several times until you feel better: 'I am safe, and I am coming back into my body, and I can let go of what I no longer need to hold onto today'. A 50-min tapping session was shown to change 72 genes! YES, your genes are changing! And the effects can continue for another 2 weeks.
How to support your child post-session
Tell them you are there for them if they want to talk about how they are feeling, but try not to ask about what happened in sessions. This can lead them to feel pressured to talk and uncomfortable. If they seem upset, ask if they'd like a cuddle. Take them to a park or the beach and let them run around and be crazy for a while. This will help release any leftover discomfort. Encourage them to play with their pet (if they have one). Enjoy a nice meal together. Play a game. Do the tapping exercise (above) with them, modifying the script to ‘I am safe and I am loved. I can let go of the yucky stuff’
Avoid
Sugars, doing too much, processed foods, high-intensity exercise, alcohol
